CancerI guess it's time to define cancer. Of course we have the human type. As I read from "Anticancer, A New Way of Life," I come to understand cancer as a rebellion of the body, usurping normal body functions for its own wayward growth. Cancer as a metaphor is found in other places as well, in the half-heartedness of the workplace; the cynicism of our nation's governance; and the unwillingness to focus global attention on common interest. But what can I do about all of this today? What difference can I make? And how does that tie into my personal objective, to "beat cancer before it beats me?" I should be focusing on casserole recipes this week; How does that tie into "customize your cube?"? It doesn't?.. Is that the answer? I'm returned to the many projects that need completion. The chicken broth needs to be separated from the chicken and frozen into containers for the pups, 30 minutes. Dinner tonight, 45 minutes. Ironing, 1 hour. The work week begins anew... If I don't have at my core a desire for something beyond getting thru the day, then I will fail and falter. Cancer takes years to develop from one cellular anomaly, a "seed", and as its environment grows in discord over time, it is accelerated by feelings of helplessness. Why would any corporate entity want to follow an uncaring leader who doesn't take the time to get to know the business, who holds the reins loosely, and follows others blindly? Isn't that what we do when we clock in, clock out, talk about whatever everyone else is talking about, vote for whoever's name we recognize, eat from prepared jars and boxes. Every once in a while we let our hearts soar to a favorite song, and wonder how the singer can be so special, so removed from our own existence. These are the dangers that I see, that I do no want for myself or anyone. I have lived these moments, and have separated myself from them. In a slow and introspective process, I know how to break the chains. We are all artists. We shape our lives. We can honor our traditions in creative ways. We can work with commitment for others, while also building toward our dreams. And since I am a visual artist, my way of communicating these concepts is in images, words, and designed space. So it's time to build. Okay, time to get ready for work. Happy Monday! Take me back to Cindy's Blog Homepage / Pembroke Designs Homepage |
